If so what is it. What do you recommed as the best? Brand? Price? Etc? I want to get one but don't really want to spend as much as the Ipods are going for. Also..can someone tell me how to download music onto one of these devices? I am a bit...uhh...technically challenged when it comes to these things!! Thanks for the help and advice. All helpful replies are much appreciated!

A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't a square.
The same rule applies to MP3 players. There are lots of devices that play MP3 (digital music) files. The iPod just happens to be one particular version of an MP3 player.
The appeal of the iPod is that it uses Apple's iTunes software. iTunes helps manage your digital music libray, it syncs music between your iPod and computer and they offer a VERY comprehensive music store that sells (most) songs for only 99 cents a pop.
I own an iPod and love it. Sure, they cost more, but I consider them to be the industry standard at the moment and for some time to come.

IPODs and mp3 players have almost the same features except most mp3 players have some added features which the ipod doesnt. Ipod shuffle is affordable but when you go for the higher models, its a bit pricy. But hey, the brand is excellent.. a.p.p.l.e.. You can download music at limewire for free. Then transfer the songs easily into your ipod/mp3 players. just copy and paste. :-) If I were you, brand matters.

Not really, but i would go with an Ipod for its ease of use. But if you are against Apple, Zune is the next best choice. Pretty soon i think zune will be way better than the ipod. But ipod will dominate the market for many years to come :-\
