Yes Australia should become a republic as the Queen is not relevant to Australia as a nation and cannot be considered an accurate figurehead for a multicultural Australia. The Queen may have been fine back in the 50's when Australia's ancestory was almost exclusively British but with the introduction of other cultures into our mix, we must now look forward to a adopting a representative for all Australians.
Not all monarchies should be eradicated - it depends on their relevance and popularity in their region.

I don't believe all monarchies should be eradicated, I think the British monarchy in particular is a great source of not just tourist dollars for England, but they do hold great social, and "gasp" political influence, even they don't have any political power so to speak.

I'm an American and I've been studying about the "ongoing British Empire" and I think that yes places like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and other far away territories of Great Britain should have their own independence, and even set up their own personal monarchies composed of their own residents if they want. Even Northern Ireland should be independent from the rest of Great Britain, because I don't see the point in ruling countries so far away from your geographic location.

Australia wants to become a republic, but the people who drafted the last referendum drafted it in such a way that the public did not agree with it. If they did it fairly and honestly, I am sure we would become a republic.

By the way, I dont think all monarchies should be eradicated. They are so much fun to gossip about and laugh at.

just remember all you republicans out there that australia if it became a republic would be run by poloticians and you would have no redress ,by having a monarchy at least there is the power of the govenor general to sack a government when it gets out of hand, like what happened with those disastrous years of the whitlam era, this country was on the verge of becoming another third world country, you should look at the system not just the queen ,its the most succesfull one in the world, usa look at us with envy(fact)as they do with canada ,dont be fooled, the only ones that would be better off are the rich ,but at least with our system they can be controlled ,but with a republic they would ,and believe me they will run rampant."IF IT AINT BROKE LEAVE IT ALONE"

Due to the way the referendum was wordedd it barely lost at the last vote in 1999, had it been honestly framed Australia would now be a Republic, The next vote will assure that Australia will be a Crown less Republic, have no doubt.

I don't think Australians will ever accept a King Charles (except for the spaniel, that's o.k. ;-). Liz is not enthusiastically loved, but she is more or less part of the furniture and the majority of people don't really mind having the old girl around.

As a general rule I don't think someone becoming an unelected head of state just because of their birth seems a bit out of whack in a democracy. Monarchs, if they are respected (and justify that respect) can be a major factor of keeping a multilingual and multiethnic country together (as did Juan Carlos of Spain).

YES! i simply can't see any reason for monarchy. Why should there be a special group of people that get state money and housing for free.

Pomp and ceremony aren't enough reason for me.
