And what is up with all the movies? Hannibal? Red Dragon? and now Hannibal Rising? I saw Hannibal when it came out and I wasn't remotely scared by him and his mask is ridiculous.

watch the movie "Silence of the Lambs" and listen to him talk about what he did to the people that he killed. I got chills when I watch it and still do.

It isn't his look that is suppose to be frightening . It's his ability to see into anyones mind, his sick twisted nature in how he kills his victims. But i do agree with they're dragging the story out a bit too much.

Well, I think it might be the fact that he enjoys eating people...;-)
Also, he is insanely intelligent and, um, insanely psychotic. Always a frightening combination.
Oh and yes, do see "Silence of the Lambs".

It's the stomach churning "people are tasty" factor that they are counting on, other than that it really isn't very frightening.
I just can't be scared by Anthony Hopkins. His voice is so gentle.
