Ahhh...that was a giant war. If I were you, I would narrow the topic down to some aspect of it. Also, Wikipedia is always good. It'll give you a great overview, and there are usually very helpful links at the bottom of the article.

European theatre of war:

Germany invaded Poland in 1939. As Poland's security was guaranteed by France & England, they declared war on Germany in September 1939.

This was followed by a few months' lull, giving people the misconcept of a "false war" when Germany invaded France in June 1940 & overran her in 6 weeks. Hitler inexplicably stopped his Panzer forces for 3 days, allowing the BEF 7 their allied forces to escape via Dunkirk back to Britain.

Sep 1941 saw the German invasion of Russia - Operation Barbarossa which ended in Germany nearly taking Moscow but was eventually defeated in the Battles of Stalingrad & Kursk & pushed back.

1943 saw the Allied landings in Sicily & Italy after the Germans were defeated in North Africa.

June 1944 saw the Allied invasion of Normandy, liberating France & opening an active second front against Germany. Berlin was taken in April 1945 & Germany surrendered in May 1945.

Asian theatre of war:

Japan invaded Manchuria & China in the 1930s, prompting America to impose embargoes on Japan. Japan retaliated by bombing Pearl Harbour in a surprise attack to neutralise the American naval threat in the Pacific (Germany declared war on America after the Japanese had bombed Pearl harbour)

The Japanese proceeded to take the Pacific Islands, Malaya, Singapore, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) & Burma. They were stopped in New Guinea & the tables turned against then in June 1941 when she lost the Battle of Midway. Thereafter, the Americans bagean retaking the Pacific Islands culminating in the fall of Iwo Jima & Okinawa in 1945.

To prevent more casuaties that would ensue in the invasion of the Japanese home islands, 2 atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in August 1945 & the Japanese surrendered.

Brief Summary:

Germany is in a severe economic downturn thanks to punitive measures imposed upon it after World War I. Germans are, therefore, prepared to accept almost any leader who promises to make things better. Along comes Adolf Hitler, whose rhetoric so captivates the Germans that they make him their leader. Hitler then sets out to right all of Germany's wrongs by subduing all of her previous enemies. He invades Poland, and a war is sparked.

Better Source:

Try your local library. Ask the reference librarian to recommend a source or two. Better yet, pick up an encyclopedia.

You could write 100 pages on causes of WWII and still not get it all. Try looking for info at a site like History Channel, or maybe a majot universitry history class in your area.
