So far, no answers, because there is no answer. James Michener was the only writer like him, and, to borrow a phrase:
"We will not see his like again."

Literature James Michener
In 1982, then-governor Bill Clements, a huge Michener fan, decided it would do the state some good if a book was written about it, and only the scope and breadth of Michener's storytelling style would do. As Peter Flawn, then-president of the University, states, "(Clements) was intrigued by these great novels that Michener wrote, starting with the basic geology, moving through these spans of time and generations of characters. I believe the governor thought it would be beneficial to tell the story of Texas in the Michener style."

Try Rutherford, first name Edward or Edmund - among his books are sarum (about salisbury, England), London, Moscow, another about the great forest of Britain (sorry, I can't think of the name) and he has done two or three about the Princes of Ireland. Like Michener, he takes a place, starts in early history and follows families and events up to the present day. Wonderful story teller. If you like Michener, trust me - you will say thank you.

not exactly an answer, but i would also like to know this, the last book i read by Mich was the "world is my home" i have not read all of them, and some i would not read, cause they are sort of boring to me, but to give you some kind of answer, maybe some of the books of Louis LaMor, not the westerns, there are several, well they are not like Mich's style, but interesting, actually i have only read two of his books, the world is my home, and Hawaii, some of Poland , okay, good luck in your search
