Lots of excellent answers here which will do what you ask. However, they will only get you an overview of your disk usage and a report of total free space.
If you want more detailed info about your disk usage and free space etc try Easycleaner - http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
I have been using this for years and it is a very useful programme.
Also helps you get rid of unnecessary files, clean up your registry, find (and delete if you want) duplicate files etc.
And it's free.
You could at least give it a try.
Good luck !

Finding out the capacity and how much of your hard drive is used is easy.

WINDOWS:
Right-click the START BUTTON, and go to EXPLORE. Find your hard drive in the LEFT PANE that shows the folders, right-click it (again), and choose PROPERTIES. Your hard drive's capacity, along with its total used space and total free space.

MAC:
The capacity and amount used are shown underneath your hard drive automatically on the DESKTOP. If it's not, press and hold CTRL (control) and click your hard drive. Go to GET INFO.

If you are still having trouble, I can be reached at kevin__-chen@yahoo.com. And yes, there are two underscores (_).
