In the US, it's different from district to district, b/c localities have freer control of their educational system, and will distribute grade levels between elementary/grade school, middle/jr high school and high school based on the student population. Most places, if your 5th birthday is before Nov. 1, you can start kindergarten that fall at age 4. You will start middle school at the 6th grade, beginning age 10 or 11, or in 7th grade. High school goes from grade 9 at the beginning of the year at age 13 or 14, and goes thru grade 12, and most students are 17 or 18 at graduation. If you choose to go to a technical school, you usually do that in conjunction with your high school curriculum (most high schools have several technical classes on-site, and students can travel to an off-site regional educational center for what can't be offered), and graduate high school with a vocational diploma.
