They have a red dot on there head semilar to hindu symbols is the doll for luck or what?

I would have to see the firures to know for sure, but if they are of children then they're just decorations, the type of thing sold to tourists. If they're of adults, then they likely represent different qualities--like kindness, obedience--that Confucianists hold to. It's the older Chinese who are more likely to be Confucianists, while the younger are either Bhuddist or, if they're from mainland China, nothing. If the figure is a fat man with a smile--usually sitting--then it represents Bhudda himself. I forget what the red dot means, but I doubt it's the same as for Hindus.

In China, the red dot on the forehead on babies is for good luck. In many buddhist god figurines, the red dot is also visible. The practice originated from hinduism.
