my computer isnt going past the startup screen. and when it finally does, it says operating system not found, and it wont let me put a disc in...

Note: i cannot even get to my desktop to do anything..... and any button i press it says operating system not found

try to run a repair install

It's telling you that you need to replace the hard drive soon. The computer is not finding the operating system on the hard drive. The operating system resides on a part of the drive know as the MBR. It keeps looking for the operating system (WinXP) that's why it taking so long for it to "boot".

Does it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT DISK" something like that ??? then check your hardisk maybe the connections are not properly aligned. Or it just broke and needed replacement

Or Try reinstalling your OS. it's quite complicated to explain here is a link do it.
