If they don't have the money then they should go to McDonald's or Burger King and buy from the dollar menu.

Some people feel "above it all" when it comes to tipping.
In my opinion, those people are really just cheap jerks trying to give justification to their idiotic ideals.
ANYone who cannot/will not tip properly should just shop for, cook and clean-up after their own meals everyday for the rest of their lives!!

I really don't want your $4 but I totally know where you are coming from. I think these people have never (obviously) worked as a tipped employee before. They don't realize that a huge percent of their server's income comes from their tips, and they also don't realize how aware their server is about the tip they leave. I had a large party one time, mostly adults in their mid to late 20's, they started to order their food, it so happened we were out of a few things they wanted, so I recommended some other things they would like. Of course, they enjoyed the things I suggested. Then they ordered desert and of course we were out of what they wanted again, so I suggested something else, which they liked. As a tip they left me their change from their $80 bill, and by change I mean coins. Yeah, not even a dollar. So I know how you feel. And to top it all off I worked in a state where they payed you way less (4/hr) than minimum wage because you were a tipped employee and they legally could. The thing about serving is, there will always be the tables that leave you ****, you may have a whole day with shitty tips, but it all will equal out in the long run and you should always be averaging a good amount. Sorry to be so long, i'm bored...

a tip is a gift from me to my server given in observance of good service if I tip poorly it is a direct reflection on how I was treated , some guide lines say 15 to 20% but if I feel slighted or crapped on by my server Im not gonna care what miss manners has to say but on the other hand I dont mind compensating very well for good service it takes a special kind of person to work with the public I cant do it but i am very thankfull for those who can and they deserve to be tipped .

Either the service sucked or they are cheap. Some people also will poorly tip if the food stinks but this is not the fault of the server and they should not be tipped poorly because of this.

Please remember that some people just don't know they're supposed to! I live in New Zealand and nobody tips here, but when I moved to the States, sometimes I would forget to tip because I wasn't used to it. I usually ate at the same places, so I would tip more the next time to make up for it. But once you've grown up in a non-tipping culture, it's an easy mistake to make.

Because they are selfish and cheap and have no understanding/compassion whatsover to how how those women and men work and the crap they have to put up with from customers and that the government taxes those tips, whether they get them or not and that restaurant owners have the poor honor of being able to pay so cheap that servers have to make up the difference in tips in order to maintain an average minimum wage.....I treat my servers with respect and with understanding (especially newbies or pros on a bad day...) and I overtip...I get wonderful service that time in thanks to my respect and exceptional service the next time I go back...the gals draw straws to see who gets to be my lucky server...

there have been studies regarding personality types that have utilized how an individual treats thier server as a reflection of thier character....so as in all aspects of your life a rule to keep in mind is that when someone treats you poorly just step back and take a look at where its coming from....i have been a server for 25 yrs. and i have seen alot!!!!
poor tippers are poor excuses for human beings...if you cant afford to tip you shouldnt be dining out.....

When I lived in the US, I tipped 15% (+ for good service, - for bad). One place was so bad that I left 1c just to show that I didn't forget.

In Taiwan there is no tipping.

1) Maybe they didn't like the service.
2) They're cheap
