Only after his death did people think it was right to for Ford to pardon Nixon. The mass population disagreed with the pardon at that time because they felt Nixon should have been punished stricter then he was but as new presidents took office in later years it was basicly forgotten. Some where i do believe i heard 60% of the population now thinks it was the propper descission. Back during the time of Watergate the people were mad at Nixon and when Ford gave him the pardon alot of the anger turned towards him.Because of this he wasnt elected because of a fear that he wouldnt be strict enough or make the right decisions to rule a country or this magnitude and also the anger played a massive part in the vote. Some people agreeded but they didnt make a group large enough to improve the cituation. So he wasnt elected.

Not disgraceful, but costly. Hind sight is 20/20, and it took some time to see that what he did was the right move. It closed that chapter of American life, and was a point to start a new one. With Vietnam, gas shortages, and Watergate, people were mad. This was the "closure" he was trying to gove people so the country as a whole could move on.

It was the kindest and most healing decision he could have made. I admire him for it. It took guts. Better to shut the door on the whole mess and set it aside for good. Ford never wanted to be president....Nixon asked him to fill the vacant V.P. position and then when he resigned himself Ford became President without ever being voted into office. He pulled the country together and got it refocused and running again.

Because at the time, people were furious that he pardoned him. But I believe if he would not have done it this country would have been ripped apart worse that the 2000 elections. We needed reconciliation and a new direction at that time and Ford delivered.

Ford's pardon of Nixon cost him the election.
I think the American people just wanted to clean out any remnants of the whole Nixon White House.

because the general population is generally ignorant about what goes on in govt and why.Ford knew that the country needed to move forward and to continue with the Nixon scandal would have took up valuable time and resources. Also I bet 75% of the population couldn't and still can't explain water gate

Because people are sheep. They must be led to the slaughter before they learn anything. In other words, they don't have the logic to figure what is best until after the fact.
