Okay...we as humans think..in a language..right? Talking to our self, but in our mind.

Well..I was thinking. Say, you were born def(never heard a language before). What and how would that def person think? Is there a certain language...or some way of analyzing data in our mind, which is all the same? What is it?

Its hard for me to put in words..but im curious.

They will form the words as others form it on their lips. They will get a sense of what it would seem like by that formation, even though it would resonate in a vague and clumsy fashion?

They would think like we did when we were babies. With images.

We add our voices to our thoughts because that's how we communicate to each other. We hear better than we can see.

But when we're babies, we don't know how to talk, yet we can still remember things. When we would see our favorite toy we want it because it's fun and comforts...it's a good feeling we had when we last saw it. When we'd see...a dog we might cry because one showed their teeth at us when we saw it. Those images are burned into our minds.

As we get older this changes because our main form of communication changes. If someone were to say the name of an ex...you'd see a flash of them and then you'd get angry or sad. THEN words would follow your those feelings in your thoughts. It's all very quick so we don't notice it most of the time.

We still use images when we think but now we have words to describe them more directly. When you write a story...you see the things you're writing down. When you write a note to your boss about something that needs to be fixed...you see the thing that needs to be fixed, and probably your boss you just don't realize it.

Interesting question.

When we think of the word water, do not connect the term with the english language. We connect them with our five senses. For example, i would picture a substance blue to my sight, bland to my taste, wet to touch. After, we submit feelings grown from past experience.

Obviously, if the person is deaf, he or she will only have four senses to work with. Anyways, what im trying to say is, the english language is just a tool for the outside world. Inside our brains, we work with perception.

People, as well as other creatures, do have a "sense" of their environment and what it is saying to them. I imagine that deaf people spontaneously make a viable "language" from cues that the hearing overlook altogether, and that many that hear, if those cues were pointed out, would think they were being played. I believe that consciousness is able to create a new channel around the deafness, which is probably more subtle and precise than we hearing are likely to pursue.

babies are always born curious. Even a deaf baby learns a degree of language. They watch mouths of people talking to them and do learn the language same as everyone else. Possibly a little stunted in that developmental area but they pick up once schooling starts. We learn a lot from touch and actions and eventually through conversation. Every deaf person I asked this to said they always though in words same as everybody else.

They have technology that helps people who are deaf hear certain sounds, and even talking. Before that, they learned sign language. A lot of people deaf can hear loud noises, like people yelling. So maybe they have a certain way that allows them to know in their minds how humans speak. Remember, when one sense is weak, your other senses are even stronger. Like blind people can feel a person's face and get a distinct picture of how someone looks, maybe a deaf person can read lips and determine what it would sound like if they heard it. You could always ask someone who has experience with deaf people.

That's very interesting actually. I would assume that if the person never heard sounds they would have to deal with images instead. Their thought process might be the same but in terms of colour and imagery instead of "talking" to yourself.

personally, i dont really technically "speak" in my mind. when im alone and i start thinking, its more like scenes. everything that i think about, i make into a scene. its more like a silent film.

i think that def people interpret things in a "visual" matter even in their minds. they themselves know what they want to convey and don't need words to convey it.

this is really interesting to think and ponder about though

Nice question!

You are what you think. No matter what your communication style is. After we die, all we take with us is our mind/soul so we must keep it pretty and strong.
