I have heard a 16 year old can't consent to anyone over 3 years older than them. Is this true?

I should've added that I live in Ohio, where 16 is the age of consent.

It does depend on your state. But it does meet the statutory rape requirements in most states.

If the person was in a position of authority over your cousin (teacher, cop, coach), all the worse (guaranteed jail time)

The age of consent in Texas is 17. However, if the age difference between the two is less than 3 years and if he did not use force, duress, or a threat against the her at the time of the offense and if he is not a registered sex offender probably nothing will happen to him other than 18 to 19 years of child support payments. If your friend were to be prosecuted under California laws, he would be guilty of a felony. There is no provision for "Romeo and Juliet" scenarios under California laws. The age of consent in Canada is 16, but it didn't happen in Canada.

That's statuory rape in most states and he can (and should!) be sent to jail for this offense. All it takes is for one person to notify your local law enforcement and they will take it from there.

But be sure about the age of consent!

This should be a useful website no matter where you live, it has the age of consent for your area. The USA is at the bottom, state by state. If your cousin is under this age (or WAS when she became pregnant), then you have a court case.

Best wishes! I hope that something is done about this guy.

Depends on what state you live in. Every state has a different age of consent.

Depending on the age limit in your state, it could be prosecuted as statutory rape, or just suing him for child support.

My personal opinion would be to ask why was your 16 yr old cousin with a 25 yr old to start with??

I believe in almost all states, no 18 year old may have sex with a minor (anyone younger than 18). Statutory rape. I believe the only way around this is if the minor has the permission of his/her parents, although I may be incorrect.

I have an idea. Let her have the child, and I will adopt it.

Beats killing the poor guy/girl.

Slaying our young is a guaranteed way of destroying social security. If you don't care about life, maybe that's a selfish reason good enough to protect the kid from dying.

I'll even save you the hassle and go after him for child support myself.

it will only be legal in any state if the the 16 year old has parental consent, otherwise, if the parents press charges, he will go to jail for statutory rape
