Although it is puzzling as to why so many Jewish people insist on being Democrats, I believe it has more to do with the leadership in the country when our Grandparents and Great-Grandparents were new immigrants to this country. They seem to have applied there appreciation to the party. This mindset is apparent in many immigrant groups. Also it has to be remembered, that many Jewish people had flocked to the Soviet Union to participate in the Social experiment, it is part of the Jewish experience to always be hopeful and idealistic, even in the darkest of times. Democrats sell a vision which markets on that kind of hope, even though I don't believe it works. The Democrats have a big challenge before them, having sold minority groups the idea that they have the answer, in light of the enormous gains made by minorities under Republican leadership, and the failure to support Israel. Socially right-wingers won't win them over, but a good moderate Republican like John McCain has a great chance of showing some historical shifts in the voting habits of Blacks and Jews, no matter what your political opinion may be. Good Luck from this Republican Jew!

The Democratic Party, specifically the labor unions and the NAACP, were the first to acknowledge the horrible conditions Nazi Germany was imposing on the Jewish people long before it was common knowledge around the globe that Hitler was crazy. I have actually seen a copy of the first full page ad run in the New York Times by a group of traditionally Democratic supporting organizations that called attention to the situation in Germany. That and the fact that it was a Democratic Commander and Chief who liberated the concentration camps. That's good enough reason for me.

I often wonder that myself when the Republican party does more for the Jews than the Democrats not to mention the Democrats have disowned a lot of their Jewish members for even daring to support Israel (such as Joe Liebermann).

There are some Jews in the Republican party 1 of them ran for Michigan State Supreme Court Judge this year and I voted for him (he lost although the other Republican I voted for did win since you could vote for 2 people, luckily the Democrat who won happens to be Pro-Life).

Actually that is a stereotype. But in truth the vast majority of jewish that do so vote democratic is simply because of the controlling media. I know it is stereo typing here but there is a good majority that do own the media. But again i hate to stereo type there is also the banking industry and yes you do have a lot of jewish people who do control that. Democrats are very big into the media and the banking industry. So there is probably a connection in that regard. But you also have to look at this why do a lot of churches and unions vote democratic? In that regard we talk about christians and just regular people. I know myself of a lot of jewish people who voted republican. So there may be a mix of some truth in your question and the reasons why and also just plain stereo typing.
