If you can get your hands on that new tickle me elmo that just came out, I'm sure he's like that. It's hard to give suggestions I don't know his interests, but other stuff from a learning toy store.
i would also reccomend train sets that he can take out when he feels and make train tacks with Thomas the Train.

Legos are great! My son loved them for years.
Anything he can put together and take apart and build with is good.
Toy cars/trucks (a fire truck!), dump truck. Tonka used to make great "construction" vehicles.
