You can hook up the old hard drive to a new computer or whatever else you have in either a new slot or unplug the hard drive you currently have in the new one and put in this old one. Pull stuff off of it and move to the new computer.

Robert, you can install the old HDD on a new computer and retrieve the files BUT! Be sure to check the HDD manufacturer's manual and set it up as a 'slave drive'. The new coumputer's HDD should be the master. The reason for this is that the old HDD registry DOES NOT contain the new computer's hardware/software data. More likely than not if you do not set the old HDD as slave the new computer will NOT boot up or if it does you will get a gazillion Found New Hardware messages. Remember, you probably won't be able to transfer programs (unless you have the setup files on the old HDD) but you can retrieve your files. Good luck.

Couple of ways.
1. If you have a IDE to USB converter, just hook it into another computers USB drive and transfer the files. Ya can usually pick them up on e-bay pretty cheap.
2. Or disconnect the ribbon cable from a 2nd computers Cd which is usually on the motherboard's 2nd IDE controller and plug in the drive. You may be able to access the files that way.
Good Luck.

Most of the ideas above should work fine, as long as the HDD isn't damaged. If the HDD is functional but information is corrupted you should be able to find software to help you. If it's non-functional I would say you are SOL unless you want to fork out a lot of money for manual hard disk recovery.

Hello,
Maybe your hard drive is in danger, and it needs to get reformatted.. That happened to me lots of times, and fortunately I was able to recover all the data using a great software tool, which I recovered all of my files.
Here is what I recommend: Download this!
http://www.download.com/Active-File-Recovery/3000-2248_4-10566122.html?tag=lst-0-1
Use this program to try and recover all of your files from that Hard Drive, and after you do that, reformat it and it will be back to normal.
Hope this helps! It worked for me!
Good luck.

Put your old drive into an external USB enclosure. That is a lot easier than putting it into a different computer.
