Misery loves company. People are always suspicious of people who do nice things and ask for nothing in return. Oprah is trying to help and people get upset - go figure.

I think it is absolutely fabulous. These girls wouldn't have had an education without her. If she could she would educate them all but it just isn't possible. These girls will have a future so bright and they have Oprah to thank for it. And no I am not biased or a bigot on colour seems how I am a white Canadian. Way to go Oprah. I hope this school is a huge success. According to television reports she is getting flack for it being all coloured children. Its her money and I believe she has a right to do with it as she wants. When she travelled to the villages to pick these girls I didn't see any white children. She picked these girls from impoverished villages and gave them a great start to life.I can't see why that is such a bad thing.

Oprah did a positive and proper thing. When asked why she chose to invest in South Africa, she responded the kids there ask for uniforms not the gadgets the American children request. These girls will now have an opportunity they did not have before and this woman again should be congratulated. As far as anyone with negative comments when they reach her status then they can decide how they will give back !!

I think you are misinterpreting what people are saying, people are not mad at Oprah for opening an all girls' school, they are just a little disappointed about her answer to a reporter's question, "why are there no white people at the school?" She answered that she didn't need to answer to white people or something similar to that. She could have answered that better, ask anyone, but everyone can agree it is very generous to give so many underprivileged children, no matter what race, gender, etc., such a great chance and a wonderful opportunity.

for one, oprah in worth way over 1.6 billion dollars now, yet she only spends 40 million on a new school. i dare you to do the math on that one, the percentage is way below 1%, what is she going to do with the rest of that money? ill tell you, she wont give it to charity, she just bought another house worth over 325 million and spends only one week a year in it, with that money she could actually make a difference in Africa like she says she is, instead of helping a few hundred kids. dont get me wrong, she is nice and all but way overated, instead of buying 25 million dollar peices of jewelry she could help others a lot more. also, many think she in prejudice because it is a all girls school and is for blacks, and some are mad cause she didnt open it in the US

She could have done so much more for South African children with that amount of money! Like : Equip existing schools with learning materials, desks, and new classrooms. (too many children per class ) Donate computers and libraries. Maybe she could have built more schools with less "beauty nessities"What are these girls going to do when they have to go back to the townships and poverty they are originally from? Is she going to look after these girls and pay for their College or Varsity? The concept behind her idea is good but she could have benefited the people of SA so much more!!!

By the way "C trying to stay strong" All the girls she is helping are from Johannesburg townships , when last i checked everyone there was black !!And they are not "African American " They are African and proud of it!!

Who's upset with her for that? It would be nice to see some of her money going to help folks in her own country, but what the heck, it's her money. Next she should give the thousands of acres that she owns on Maui back to the Hawaiians... most of them can't afford to own a home on the island that there families have been living on for thousands of years since rich folks like her have driven the price of real estate up and out of control.

Many people need something to be outraged about. I think it's because they're lacking something in their own lives. That's not to say we can't be critical of certain things that are illegal, immoral or unethical, but it's hard for some people to mind their own business and make the world a better place on their own, rather than judging others.

You're right, it's her money. Helping humanity is rarely wrong. :)

Because this world is RACIST!!! People in this world don't want to see Oprah waste her money on "AFRICAN AMERICANS..," like myself. They want her to spend money on the opposit color..,

Oprah did a good thing by opening a school in Africa, but the question is "Who is all the money RALLY going too?" The AFRICAN AMERICANS who really need the help or the "OPPOSITE COLOR?"

Frankly if you ask me.., it should go to the people that need it most in this world and that is my race..,

You are kidding me!! Some people just look for the negative and stay in the pessimistic, judgemental state of mind until they die, those are all those sour looking people you see on the street or in the elevator that look at you like, "Drop dead," when you tell them hello. I think it is a habit, and you are SO right, it is none of anyone's business but hers and I think she is a wonderful, caring person, in fact, if I am being honest, sometimes I feel she doesn't do enough giving considering the size of her fortune. I honestly REALLY truly believe that if I were a billionaire, or at least a multi-mullionaire, I could never feel good about spending $3000 on a set of sheets or $500 for underwear? They may be talented, but aren't we all in one way or another....I mean many of us work just as hard or harder than they do and would never dream of spoiling ourselves like that when "THEIR" kind of money could make so much difference in the lives of so many people!!!!!!!!!! Okay, off my soap box. Thank you for letting me vent!!
