1st of all its very important to know that just cause you have your heart set on one-be prepared to use the other. My friend's newborn refused to nurse and it tore her apart-baby blues big time. So with that said-I nursed for 6 weeks only. It was great for bonding but as a single mom-I needed others to be able to feed her so the bottle was started. Still I regret nothing cause I tried. Gather all the info that you can and then do what is going to work for you and your baby cause both options have great pros and cons. Good luck.

***If you are going to nurse you should naturally for at least a few weeks before you pump***

In almost all cases, breastfeeding is the best food for baby. Even the formula companies state this clearly on their packaging. Breastmilk is the food that babies are meant to eat and there is nothing that matches it in terms of nutrition.

That being said, there are some RARE cases when it is not best for a baby to breastfeed and formula is the best option. This includes if a mom is very ill, or taking certain medications that are passed through breastmilk that are known to cause harm to babies (there aren't many medications that inhibit breastfeeding but they do exist).

Also rare, but some women just can not breastfeed. Either they can't make enough milk, or they don't produce any milk at all. This is extremely rare but in this case, formula is obviously the only thing that will work for the baby.

Breastfeeding can be hard work and frustrating in the beginning. And the hard work shouldn't be confused with the inability to breastfeed. When a woman is able to nurse, she should at least try. There really is no better food for babies.

BREASTFEEDING!!!!! It"s the best for your baby and for you. Everything your baby needs is in your milk. You don't have to get up at 3 in the morning and make a bottle! My baby sleeps in my bed with me and all have to do is roll over and give him my breast. And it's such a great bonding experience! Your baby is more attached to you. Which is how it should be. It also helps you lose weight quicker than if you didn't. Another plus is if you get sick than the baby gets antibodies thru your milk that help him/her fight sickness! And the baby doesn't get sick from you being sick just to make that clear. But if there are complications and you cant breastfeed that's OK. As long as you love your baby everything will be fine. But if there are no complications then you should absolutely breastfeed. You are lucky you can give the baby this gift. Hope this helps. I've been breastfeeding my boy for 15 months now and its one of the best decisions I've ever made! Good luck!

Breastfeeding of course is more natural, being that our females bodies were made to produce the first food for our infants. It also helps your baby build antibodies that are necessary for good health. But never feel bad or put down b/c you choose bottle feeding. I did breast feed and found it to be not only the best for my 4 babies but I loved the relaxed "down-time" with them. It gave me an excuse to stop and just hold and nurture my little one. But nothing is wrong with bottle feeding. And there are some good benefits from bottle feeding as well. Like someone else can help you, like the papa or grandmama. Also you know exactly how much milk your infant has taken. You are a smart mother. You can decide. :) God Bless.

They say breastmilk is best. However, i have two boys, 2 1/2 year old twins, and they were bottle babies. (i did not have an option as they are adopted) But they are healthy little guys. One just had his first temperature ever, the other has yet to ever get a temperature. It's amazing how healthy they are, and they were 7 weeks premature. I see nothing wrong with either choice, it's a decision the mother needs to make. Some people say bonding is better between mother and baby if breastfeeding, but my boys love me just the same :-) (ok they love daddy a little more...but hey! daddies boys haha) I think whatever you decide is going to be fine. Discuss which formula is best for your baby with the doctor, go to breast feeding classes and then decide. Talk to people who are breast feeding/bottle feeding and see what they have to say. In the end its your decision to make. WIC offices in my area offer breast feeding classes, so check with your WIC office and see if they offer them. They are great, very educational. I am having my first biological child and have decided to bottle feed this one as well. Personal choice. Good luck to you on whatever you decide :-)

Breastfeeding is much better for both mom and baby! It is much healthier and it is free! How often in life can you give your child the gold standard for FREE?! (So.....do you want to pay out the wazoo to just "get the job done" as someone else put it, or give your child the best.....the mercedes.....for free?)

Cow's milk (what most formulas are made from) is for baby cows. Breastmilk is for baby humans!

Breastfeeding helps mom lose weight faster. It helps prevent postpartum hemmorhage. It helps prevent many different kinds of cancer including breast cancer and uterine cancer. Delayed return to fertility. (Some women don't get periods back until they wean.....others do as baby cuts down some or starts solids. For me, I went 10 mos without a period after my first, 9.5 mos after my second and 16 mos after my third!)

Breastfeeding makes for healthier babies because of all the anitbodies baby gets through the milk. This means less missed work and costly doctor appointments for mom and dad.

Breastfed babies have less ear infections, less chance of allergies, diabetes, obesity, etc. They have better teeth. Lower chances of many kinds of cancer.

Breastmilk is always ready, always the right temperature and you can never run out. It changes from day to day to meet baby's specific needs as he grows.

ETA:
Direct breastfeeding (at the breast) is obviously the best as it's the way nature intended it to work. If that isn't possible, providing baby with pumped milk is a great alternative. There are a few benefits that don't work as well if baby is getting only pumped milk. The antibodies don't work quite as well since you don't have the "mouth to breast" contact that helps mom's body figure out what anitbodies are needed.....what baby has been exposed to. And the oral development isn't as good since baby is sucking on an artificial nipple. Breastmilk is still nutritionally superior though, even if it comes from a bottle.
Exclusively pumping is time consuming and not many moms CHOOSE to do that though.....instead they do it out of necessity if baby won't latch on or something like that.

ETA AGAIN:
Forgot to say this about pumping - if the baby is latched on correctly, he will always get more milk than even the very best pump.

It's really what's best for both of you. Breastfeeding might not be a good situation for some people, due to a lot of factors. I didn't breastfeed because I was on medication after my daughter was born. I had a friend who didn't breastfeed due to the fact that her daughter was very sensitive to anything my friend ate. She didn't like the taste of certain foods in her milk. Formula feeding is very expensive and also a hassle mixing up bottles. Breastfeeding is cheap and convenient. Either way, you'll still bond with your child and provide him/her with great nutrition.

You do what you feel is best. DO NOT be pressured to do what someone else tells you to. I was forced to bottle feed both my sons even though I had planned on breastfeeding. I was guilty about the first, but he had made it to 5 years old and is super smart and healthy. The second is 6 months old and is doing wonderfully. giult won't make you a better monther. Do it your way, not someone else's.

If you look it up on line u can find a lot of stuff on that. Google it. But it will come out to be breastfeed. It has vitamins that they can't get from any where else. Also it has a lot to do with bonding mother and child
