are saying that black colleges are discriminatory.

White people do you realize that the black colleges were opened due to white people enforced segregation?

Do you all believe all male or all female schools are discriminatory?

Many black schools are now called historically black colleges because they are intergrated. And most colleges throughout the U.S. are white.

I am asking, "Do people think all male or all female colleges discriminatory?"

No, they're not discriminatory.

A historically-black college is only discriminatory if it denies admission to people based on race or other non-academic factors. I don't think any of the them do that (the one nearest me actually gives scholarships to non-blacks to increase their campus's "minority" population).

For single-sex schools and universities, I wouldn't call it discrimination per se (since good intentions are actually usu. at heart) but I think they're not necessarily allowing people to fully develop and mature (I know that they say that single-sex allows students to focus more on their studies). Regardless of your sexual orientation, it's an important life skill to get along with members of the opposite sex and that's hard to do if you're hardly ever around them. And it would probably help keep people from becoming irrationally hypersensitive feminists or chauvinist pigs.

I don't believe that historically-black colleges are discriminatory, nor do I believe that same-sex colleges are the same. In fact, I resent that these same-sex colleges have been forced, in many cases, to admit the opposite sex. I feel the same about historically-black colleges.

I do not believe it would be harmful at ALL for a black student to attend an all-black college; in many cases, I believe it would help a student to simply focus on learning, away from any racial hurts they've already suffered. Granted, I've had the rare student at my own university, who has stated that he or she never faced racism, so maybe that college experience wouldn't be the best for them, since reality will hit eventually. But for those who've been discriminated against by teachers and school officials, by shop clerks and taxi drivers, by police and medical officials, getting away from all of the hurt and tension would surely help.

That's the philosophy, anyway, behind same-sex education: allowing a student to simply focus on learning.

Hello there, I am a Libra but I'm not laughing nor am I'm a predujiced racist either. I believe that all male and all female schools legally discriminate against each other. But then we have faced larger obstacles have we not? I am happy that I see people as people. I'd like to think that when someone looks at me they see a person and not someone that is out to get them because of color. Unfortunately there are people that still blame me for the sins of the father. Yes,enslavement of any kind is sinful. Did you know that women have been the last ones to receive their equal rights? That's a downer is'nt it. My white cousin did get to go to your supposedly historically black college because she was considered a minority. She is a great nurse now as a result of the fact that she is educated not because she is white. If most colleges throughout the U.S. are white then more afro-Americans, Native Americans,Mexicans should be applying and then follow thru with their education. Personally I believe everyone should be able to get the education if they want.

Black colleges were created after the Civil War to help former slaves enter professional jobs.

At that time, Blacks were banned from going to the same colleges attended by White students.

Up until the 1950's, most major White American colleges restricted admissions by Black students - Northwestern and Harvard would only admit 1 Black student per academic year, and the University of Mississippi wouldn't admit Black students at all.

Even after the Civil Rights laws were passed, Black colleges were still necessary, since many predominantly White schools still went out of their way to admit White students and provided limited opportunities to Blacks.

Now, with Affirmative Action under siege by Congress, the courts and the state legislatures, Black colleges are more necessary than ever.

easily I surely have considered it thrown the two approaches, i'm going to assert it does come from the white section extra. I have not have been given any clue in this. I stay and grew up in an bigger classification white suburb, so maximum of my pals are white. all of us have money and high quality issues, and in certainty think of alike. usually i'm floored via the critiques of those racist. i'm going to assert that maximum blacks have stepped forward a hard epidermis for this type of hatred and lack of awareness, and surely want to no longer be in contact in bigotry. i assume you could say we actually do no longer care pertaining to to the lack of awareness. I do think of plenty racists ask questions approximately right here the two to get a reaction, or merely because of the fact they do no longer understand approximately human beings. the two way all of it boils all the way down to lack of awareness

I see. at least only pme person called you a racist :).

I loved going to a black college, because it was fun. There were lots of beautiful women there, positive brothers I could hang around and not get arrested, and the curriculum was relavant to me culturally as well as academically.

Besides white students can go to a Black college for free, probably easier than a black kid can go to white school. So do realize that affirmative action works both ways.

BTW. you messed up. you were supposed to go a black undergrad and white graduate school. Black schools aren't inferior, I do happen to know that in Texas they do recieve inferior funding howver.

A college is a college. The school here, Southern University is a "black college", but sometimes has white students. If you are saying that most of the colleges are white, then what the heck is affirmative action for? African American students, along with women, that have LOWER GPA's and Test Scores than white males get into colleges, while the white males are rejected. I don't know about you, but when I apply, I want to get in because of my GPA, NOT because of my sex or race(I'm Jewish). Yes, I will choose my school, but not because of the race or gender "requirements". So I don't have a problem with them, but that is because they do not affect my decision.

Hmmm...I never thought of male/female schools being discriminating. I always saw it more as a choice. Something to think about I guess....
I personally don't think there's a need for segregated schools anymore. I think it keeps a rift between the races. If you're wondering why all the other schools are full of whites- it's because of segregated schools that blacks go to! And that there's just more white people....
I love going to school with different races. I like the different people and ideas!

A black college by its very nature is discrimnatory - however, that doesn't mean because it exists that its existance in unethical and/or immoral. The same could not be said for a "whites" only school because of historic precedents.

Good Luck!!!

As to your question about all male or all female schools they are dicriminating based on sex. Does that mean they shouldn't exist - no - but they are discriminating. Discrimination is not aways a bad thing unless it harms another by either social and/or economic means.
