I've been wondering this for quite a while and I am learning Japanese right now. But how does the names transfer? Like my name is Alex. How would that come together when it is said in Japanese. Or more accurately Kanji?

Well all American names are written in Katakana, never Kanji, because they are consider foreign words. Normally names are transfered over into Japanese based on trying to make it sound as close as possible to your actual name. There is no "l" sound in Japanese and there is no "x" sound. To kind of help you with making your name the "r" sound in Japanese is pronounced more like combination of "r" and "l". This is the most common pronunciation mistake I find. You can look up your name in Japanese on many sites, but the pronunciation maybe off, so you may have to make some adjustments. Hope this helps.

Edit:
This is what I've found for your name on a few sites. It seems your name is not that commonly translated. Arekkusu is the most common translation I'm finding. Unfortunately the "x" sound is pretty much lost and replaced with an "s" sound.

Well, this can be kinda hard to explain. I, too, am learning Japanese, and I may be a bit further along than you are.

My best friend is Japanese, and she started teaching me. My name is "Kaitlyn", and in Japanese, it's pronounced "Keitorin". "L" is pronounced as the sound of an "R", and vise-versa. For Alex, I would say that that's a toughy. If you would like, I could contact my friend and ask her, seeing as I've moved to a differetn state after a year of being her friend. She should reply pretty quickly, but I don't offer any guarentees. If you find a better answer than this, please let me know.

Your name would be アレクス (arekusu). As mentioned before, western names are always written in katakana because they are foreign. But I think your name could be written as chinese characters in Chinese, however I don't know what that would be.

your name would be アレックス (in katakana)=arekkusu pronounced ah ray koo soo. In kanji you have more options (but it would not usually be written in kanji in japan), here are 3: http://www.jun-gifts.com/personalizedgifts/namelisttwo/a/namelisttwoa.htm

You can choose any kanji you like. I'm willing to choose kanji for your name.

Well, what about 亜怜久須. pronounced like "a lake sue". Don't you think it sounds close to your real name?
