You should tell her the truth. "Well your soon going to come at an akward time in your life when your body is becoming more and more woman like. To help your body get ready to start a family, something happens. It sounds scary, but it's not. Your Body begins to push waste from your uterus to your privates. Because that is where the baby would have come from." No need to get gory... it will only frighten her. Some things you have to expierience. When her period finally comes and she realizes that this is the discharge you mentioned, she'll probably be more calm. But if you say "Blood will pour from your vagina!" She will be terrified of something ineviatble and natural. Be calm and warm. smile. And explain that you get one and your fine. It's just a part of maturing. Remind her that because her BODY is growing to maturity, her MIND needs much more time. Hope this helps! Let me know what you ended up doing!

On top of the average age being between 12-14 for your first period, the other thing to take into consideration is weight. My mom was really thin growing up and didn't start until she was 18.

You should tell her that everything is fine and she will probably get it before she turns 17 everyone is different on what age they get it. Also let her know that if she is upset about not having it to let her know to be thankful because once she gets it she probably will not be happy so enjoy while it lasts.

well some people get it when they're 16 or even 17. 12-13 is about the average age, so your sister is fine.
