How does your laptop connect to the internet? Do you have a (wireless) router?
If so, just connect the Xbox to your router either through a normal network cable or buy the wireless connector (however it's very expensive).
Other than that, if you don't tell us, how your laptop connects to the net, I won't be able to help you 100%.

Well, 1, is your laptop plugged into anything besides the power supply? if so, then you need a wireless router which sends out a wireless internet signal. If nothing else is connected, then u have wireless internet. THis means you have to buy the Xbox's wireless adapter and plug it in. (It costs a whopping 100 bucks :-( i think the ps3 is better because it comes with this built in) then you should be in buisness! Hope that helps
