the sending unit is probably going out in it,,this is usually what causes this to happen,,hood luck hope this helps,

The most likely cause is a bad fuel sensor. That's the sensor that sends a signal as to how much gas is in the tank.
The other possibility is that there is just a loose connection.

You have a problem with the sensor, either the sensor is bad or the wiring is bad..... more than likely it is the sensor, I had the same problem with my 1985 F-150. You will have to drop the tank and replace the sensor.

either you have a hole in your fuel tank or perhaps there is a problem with your fuel sending unit (its in the tank) you could have blown a fuse or there is a bad electrical connction associated to your fuel sending unit.

sounds like the float cracked and sank i have changed 5 in customers cars
