yes alot of literature is made of and has references to mythology the most popular mythologies are Roman and Greek as they were very powerful in their day and had many different beliefs and that is why they had many gods and godesses.

I say read as much as you can and enjoy the stories and adventures that unfold.

Yeah, why not.

Especially if you want to be well learned or a writer.

And it's not just the prime characters but the minor one's as well. Tom Stoppard did a whole play on Shakespear's fictional, minor characters Rosencrantz and Gildenstern.

Any of the names found in Sci Fi come from ancient myths and even the Bible or Quran.

Some of those stories make for great action reading and you can easily devise a whole book by changing the location and character names.

Absolutely.

The Three Witches of MacBeth have many parallels with the Three Fates, the Three Muses, etc.

Together, the Three Witches become Cerridwyn, a Goddess who presides over the cauldron in which all knowledge boils.

yes it does... read up on lots of stuff... i'm a book worm by heart and i've read norse, greek, roman, irish, chinese, japanese, american, sumerian, and filipino mythology... sometimes you bump into bits and pieces of mythology as you read on.. sometimes on sites....

you'd enjoy it of course! it's fun although you'd see that the themes are often the same... literature of the old world often reffered to gods and goddesses... sometimes you'd be reading a poem and you can't understand what he's saying coz the author is referring to someone you don't know then when you look it up he was referring to this god...

When I started a degree in English lit I was told the two most useful sources to read were the Bible and Homer.
