Well Weiland said that the song was based on a missing girl. Who tehy later found dead . And also about failed relationships he was in at the time he wrote the song. what the first guy didn't say is that Weiland said this during the 1999 tapping of there VH1 storytellers...just a few weeks before the release of thre fourth album #4 ...and that he was arrested trying to buy cocaine from a cop just a week or so before the released of 4.

look up Vh1 Storytellers for there set they played they will tell you where other songs they did came from yoo like Interstate Love Song.

Its lyrics were loosely based on a newspaper article Weiland had read about a girl who had been found dead in an area outside of Seattle. Weiland has also said that the songs lyrics are a metaphor of a failed relationship.

I LOVE THIS SONG! This used to be one of my favorite play-over & over songs! The lyrics were inspired, in part, by an unfortunate news story in their hometown of San Diego, California about a missing young woman who was later discovered dead by local law enforcement ("And I feel, when the dogs begin to smell her...").
