Both my 20-year-old brother and 28-year-old husband were born in hospitals that our now closed. My brother was born in Two Rivers, WI and my husband was born in Los Angeles, CA. Some hospitals close because they don't have enough money to stay open and others close because they build bigger, newer facilities or find better locations. Does that help??

A hospital may be full and not able to admit new patients.
or a hospital may go out of business and close their doors for good. or a hospital may chose to close their emergency room during the 3rd shift. But a hospital doesn't close.

hospitals may shut down b/c new ones are built that are bigger and better equiped to take care of patients.
some close b/c there is not enough money to keep them open or enough staff
if you are asking if they have closing hours like stores-then no. a hospital is never allowed to close their doors. they may have to keep people in the emergency waiting room for long periods of time due to not having any open beds in the er or in the hospital to admit them in.
sometimes they go on what we call "divert" or "standby" meaning, that they will not take any patients by ambulance or helicopter b/c there is no more room. these patients are re-directed to another hospital in the area

Hospitals don't close, even when there is a national day of mourning. they have to stay open for anyone that needs healthcare.
