if you are there for a few days, you might want to check out a few other towns like DenHaag or Rotterdam, rotterdam is a very modern city with lots ofmuseums and lots of art, very nice town and it is so easy to take the train from amsterdam central to rotterdam central just check the site www.ns.nl there is a link for english and fill in where you want to go and it will give you the times and platforms and all.
enjoy your stay and have loads of fun and yes, be carefull for them pickpocketers they are very good out here.

The Rijksmuseum with the Night Watch by Rembrandt.
Van Gogh Museum.
Anne Frank House and Museum.
Definitely a Tour along the canals.
Visit a Diamond Factory

if time left go to Volendam and Marken which are not so far from Amsterdam and where people still wears their traditional costumes.

Enjoy it and have a nice trip.

just about anywhere you might wander from there - try the Kandinsky coffee shop for the grass/hash menu - really detailed - gives information I've not really seen anywhere else. For other stuff I'm not too sure - museums are really good - but never went there myself although I lived there for 15 years. Barney's breakfast bar is the only place I went into (coz I worked there) but I heard the Grey Area is pretty good too. Try the red light area - but don't make eye contact or hold conversations - never buy drugs on the street - they're guaranteed to be crap
