I've heard that people who have committed some of the worst atrocities in history were operating from a mindset that allowed them to think they were doing the right thing somehow. Do you think this is the case with Saddam, or is his just a case of absolute power corrupting absolutely?

I don't feel as though it was just as simple as doing right or wrong. I think he simply equated fear and power. If one instills enough fear in another, he has the power.

Did he believe he was doing the right thing? YES, he had to.... But right for who? I'm sure his victims would not agree with that simply because they lived through his reign (and the ones that were lost as well.)

He thought he could do no wrong. He was a sociopath as someone else mentioned. He was also a narcissist - just look at all those statues, monuments and portraits he displayed of himself around his country. He gave himself "god-like" status. I don't think he would have been capable of doing any sort of introspection concerning the atrocities he committed.

No matter how much we may hate what Saddam did in his life there will always be people that loved him and look past all the horrible things he did. Hard to understand it but true.

Hussein grew to become into killing his own human beings yet no longer something like what Stalin grew to become into doing. Hussein grew to become into keeping his fiefdom from in domicile potential struggles. the guy on the line grew to become into extremely secure. It grew to become into the turning out to be generals and politicians that have been in Saddam's gun attractions for most of the time. sure the Iraqis have been a hell of so lots at an advantage with the dictator on the helm. In some years everybody is going to work out only how nicely off the Libyans have been with the nut bar Qaddafi, and Mubarak? nicely a minimum of he gave back a number of what he grew to become into stealing and he did shop the peace fairly. Syria is going down a similar highway the Tunisians started and through gum in the event that they are no longer likely to be led through the nostril on the palms of the Muslim Brotherhood. they have Egypt, they have Libya of their pocket, the Tunisian ladies are walking scared for what has taken carry of their usa now. you will get all kinds of arguments and debates relating to the so referred to as Arab Spring. yet time will let us know all: the muslim brotherhood is going to be working the full of the Arab international very quickly. How they run issues is through "Shariah regulation". Ever watch a rustic thrive decrease than Shariah regulation after the freedoms their dictators gave them? seem at Iran, you realize the land Jimmy Carter fvcked up. (ever observe how briskly the human beings have been released after Reagan have been given into potential?) The Shah of Iran grew to become into toppled and seem at what's there now. you could assume Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria, to be wearing the footwear of the muslim brotherhood only like Iran does as we talk.
