Plastic, I have steps, so I can carry more up the stairs per trip with plastic- the handles fit right on my arm. Too hard to carry 4-5 paper bags up stairs... In a perfect world, paper though. Which is better- killing trees, or filling landfills? Both are not good for the environment.

Paper. Many Americans have this rediculous misconception that we are running out of trees, and are plowing down old-growth forests to make paper, which is absolutely not true. At least 75% of the paper produced in this country comes from states in the deep south, which can grow merchantable sized pulp trees in 12 to 20 years. Plastic bags are made from petroleum by-products, which is not renewable. Trees are a renewable resource, and believe me, there are PLENTY of them to go around.

for bags: plastic, but mainly because I re-use and recycle like a madman
for currency, I prefer old-school paper (before they started making "Monopoly money")
