I am just curious.. If you name a little girl your name do you still put a Jr at the end? I have heard of plenty of boys that are so and so Jr but what about girls?

I am not naming my little girl after me. I just found out that one of my cousins named his little girl after me. Entirely THE FULL NAME (I am not married yet so we do have the same last name) But they put a JR on the end and I thought it was weird. I was wondering if it was more common that I thought

I don't think you put a Jr. after girls names. For one thing, in many (but not all) cases the child will have a different last name than the mother so its not exactly the same name. Junior just seems like more of a masculine term to me anyway.

That is just strange. I guess if it was me I would be flattered. However a child is usually only a Jr. if HE is being named the exact same thing as his father.
Where your cousin did this a Jr. would not be necessary. Also, it is a little strange. Girls don't require a Jr after their name as at some point it usually changes when they get married.
However, it could cause some confusion with legal matters with you and her having the same name.
I found this on wikipedia:
"Although there are instances in print of daughters who are named after their mothers also being titled "jr.", this is usually for effect; it is not common practice. The title "Jr." is sometimes used in legal documents, particularly those pertaining to wills and estates, to distinguish among female family members of the same name."

No. Junior is only used for boys names. And in the case of naming the baby after a relative that isn't the child's parents (such as a grandfather, uncle, or cousin) the correct form would be the name and then the Roman numeral 2 (ex: John Doe II). This is also a practice used almost exclusively for boy children.

That sounds really bizarre to me. The whole situation. Jr is a term applied to boys, I've never heard anyone even think about putting it after a girls name. And then to give his child your name exactly, and not even tell you until after it was done? That's just weird.

I think using Jr for girls is becoming an annoying trend. I have heard of 2 cases where little girls were named something Jr on their birth certificate.

I've never heard of Jr. added to a girl's name. My husband is a Jr. and it ahs caused all kinds of problems....His Dad's credit issues have turned up on his credit report etc. Even with a Jr. added to distinguish the two there has been confusion.

I thought a jr had to be named after their own parents. Never heard of someone being a jr named after someone other than their mom or dad. ???

Jr. seems like a term for a guy, not a girl. I think it is annoying, arrogant and selfish to name a little girl after her Mother with the same first name. I don't even like to hear it with boys, but definitely not girls. If you must name your daughter after you just give it to her as a middle name.

i dont think it is that common. i did know a lady whose daughter was named after her but that was because the little girls dad wanted it and the mom stopped fighting about it eventually. i think a family member naming a child after you is sweet but they shouldnt have used Jr at the end.
