280 : 3 = x : 16 <=> 16*280:3 = x <=> x = 1493.3333333333333

Well, figure out how much the student makes in one hour.
$280/3hrs = $93.33/1hr
Multiply that by 16 and you get... $1,493.28
Round that to the nearest whole dollar and the answer is $1,493
