because it is made of swiss cheese, which is full of holes. those holes are formed by gas during the moon making process. that process is millenia old. in ancient greece they had a democracy, and democracy requires politicians. after a while they got tired of the politicians stinking up the place with their fecal rhetoric so they put them all in a giant cannon and shot them into space. a giant globule of milk was circling around, and the politicians landed in it. they turned the milk sour and the gas from their speeches made big bubbles in it. the people of greece were so overjoyed that the milk globule caught the politicans, preventing their return to earth that they gave the moon god status.
