Oprah recently opened a 40 mil. Dollar school in Africa...but when asked why she did not chose to provide some of American impoverished children with such a much needed opportunity. She allegedly...replied that the kids in the inner cities would not appreciate such a school. Do you think that some American child’s life could have been changed of given the opportunity? I am all for helping out the world but shouldnt we as Americans....take care of home first before we go healing abroad?

Oprah is from the United States, born and raised
does she appreciate her God given luck?
forty million dollars !!!!!!!!
did you see the video of Diane Sawyer at the school?
there are all of 152 students there
in such an impoverished land you would think $40,000,000.00 could have done so much more
if she wasn't so obsessed with putting herself on a pedestal and being worshiped she would have helped the children in her own backyard
DONATE NOW make it possible for "Oprah" to build another school for foreigners with your money, God forbid she put a dent in her OVER $1.5 billion net worth

There too much involved, so very complicated.

But if I had to do a guestimation, I would have to say, no they wouldn't appreciate it.

Do they need it, yes. But would they appreciate it, no.

You have to take it all in account. Welfare. Crime. Gangs. Drugs. Missing parental authority. An increase in drop-outs. Lack of respect for authority and law. Lack of structure. Sub-standard teachers. Dangerous schools.

Other assistance systems have poured money into the inner city. It didn't work. They try Big Brother/Big Sister, urban development, whatever. Not much improvment. Now their recent efforts have come down to 'no one left behind'. They move them thru just to get them out of their schools and into the streets.

Oprah has done so much already for disaster relief and inner city reformation and goodwill services. But which would you try with your money, continue to give money into the inner city and make some percentage of success or go out to Africa and help those who are dying for math books and get a great heap of success? More bang for your buck?

She didn't stop helping the inner city kids. But why 'stop' with just the inner city kids?

First off I do not believe Oprah would ever say anything like that .
Second , children act on what they are taught .If they are taught Love they give love , if they are ignored or abused they do the same to others .

Look at it like this ... what do you Always get when you squeese a lemon ... Lemon juice , never orange juice .
When you pressure a kid you get what he was taught .

Education in america means something different than it does in Africa. I think inner city youths don't care much for public education because it does not relate to them culturally. Our education here is more of an indoctrination.

I don't think it would have changed much if they truly didn't value education. Whats the point of helping those who won't respect what you give them give it to those who really want it.
