given the very probable likelihood that Obama will not get selected for the presidential run, does he stand a chance of the getting the VP nod? If so, who should he partner with?

Edwards/Obama: Edwards is well-known and has a base in the south. Obama has some additional star power. They both are quite articulate speakers and run on a similar message, of bringing hope and building one America, etc.

Vilsack can't bring in the same amount of people that Edwards can. And Edwards is more likely to get the nominee since he has a growing base of grassroots supporters.

Obama, at this point in his career, makes a stronger VP candidate than a Presidential candidate. He has the charisma and charm, but lacks the experience and in-depth knowledge (or perception of knowledge) candidates like Clinton and especially Biden can play up.
I think Vilsak is a stronger Presidential candidate than Edwards. Voters have preferred governors to senators in recent elections: Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and "W" have all been governors. Nixon is the last President to have been a Senator. Edwards will have a tough time carrying any state in the south - he'll run tight in Virginia, but he won't win it. Vilsak could carry Iowa, and have enough influence in other key midwest / rocky mountain states to maybe pull it off (Colorado; New Mexico; maybe even Nevada...). It should be a fun race to watch - I'm looking forward to it!

Well, i reject your premise that Obama will not get chosen. He has a better chance than either of the two other choices. Look at the primaries:

Iowa: Obama is midwestern, pious, and youthful; he should look appealing to many of the Iowa Caucuses
Nevada: Toss Up
New Hampshire: Grip and Grin primary; you need to be good with people, and Obama is; he has already moved to large speeches (1500+), and that is hard this early; he has name recognition
South Carolina: Admittedly, Edwards has a good shot here; however, one must remember that there is a sizeable African American vote in the South Carolina that will surely vote for Obama

That having been said, Vilsak has no chance at winning the primaries; Kerry has a better chance, if you can believe it.

Who says Obama will not be selected for presidential nominee. He hasn't at this time yet submitted his intentions as to running for the presidential nomination.
Obama/Edwards is still my firm choice.
If he gets the VP nod yes it should be with John Edwards.

Out of your two choices, I would choose Edwards/Obama. Obama is pretty much a rockstar, but people will attack his lack of experience. Edwards is already a familiar name, and he has plenty of experience to back them up. As for Vilsack...errr..who's Vilsack? Besides, a Dec. 21, 2006 poll taken from 600 likely Iowa caucus voters put Edwards and Obama at 22% each as Democratic favorites (Vilsack 14%, Clinton 10%).

I don't know about Obama right now...he's funny, refreshing, and charismatic, but I'm afraid that if he runs too early and loses, he'll never win. I just hope he turns out to be every bit as amazing as he seems.

Conventional wisdom says Edwards/Obama would be the better because of the geographical balance, Obama being from the midwest and Edwards from the south. There would also be, as of now, an ideological balance, Obama being perceived as moderate.

Edwards/Obama is good. But I would love to see General Clark get the nod. I don't ever want to see another President in office who doesn't have military service under his belt.

Edwards/obama...Edwards became likeable in the last election and Obama is becoming likeable. I think I like the clinton/obama pair better though...
