go to the bands' websites and there is usually a newsletter you can sign up for for cd releases, tours, etc. also, yahoo groups are good for that stuff too.

Any band that has a website will promote a new album MONTHS before it's released. Sign up for the mailing list. It will alert you as to when new albums are comming out, band news and updated tour dates.
