Generally, the gestation period for swordtails is 28-42 days with the number of fry being 20-100 (but these numbers can be larger or smaller depending on the individual fish plus a host of other factors).

Depending on the color of the Swordtail, you will be able to tell when she is about to deliver as her stomach will be kind of squared in appearance and if she is a green sword or a light color the area by her privates will become blackish in color. It generally takes about a month. If the water temperature is right and they are fed well all will go well. If you do not want them to eat the babies (they are born live) make sure that you have plenty of plant coverage both at the bottom of the tank and some at the top of the water too for the babies to hide in or invest in a breeder tank. I raise both Swordtails and Guppies and if you have the plants (either artificial or live) the babies usually do okay in the main tank. But make sure that you feed the adult fish a couple of times a day so that they don't get hungry!!!

20-40 days.
Here are some signs of pregnancy!...
1. She all of a sudden gets extremely fat (usually noticed over a period of two or three days).
2. There is a little "pooching" around her anal area (on mine, her's is a pale flesh color that is noticable since she is bright orange). I believe this is what is known as a "gravid spot".
3. If your fish is transparent enough, you usually can see little black dots right around the abdomen around the anal area (these are the eyes of the little fishies, I suppose).
4. She also starts hiding under plants, gravel, and in hiding places!
5.She loses her appetite and i suggest you start placing flake food right in front of her so that she eats!
6. Make sure you put alot of hiding spots or your'e going to start making her get stressed out! When you make her get stressed you increase the chances of her dieng when she gives birth!

Her due date is theory to be July thirteenth even nonetheless it truly is commonplace for first pregnancies (in many cases) to be somewhat late, yet we gained't say precisely whilst she would be able to furnish delivery. British hospitals would have a tendency to not bring about labour till a splash one is two weeks late.or there are different issues.

Generally about a month. It really depends on what you are feeding her. A high protein food like freeze dried brine shrimp or blood worms will help. (Remember that they are still omnivores so a flake with veggies/algae should still be fed.)

Not sure, but you'll be able to tell when she starts looking like she is gonna pop. Shouldn't take too long!
