A novel is a type of a book.
Books come in many shapes and sizes filled with different types of writing. A novel is a book of fiction which focuses on one continuous story. A book is anything bound that contains pages with text. A book can be a songbook, a text book, a biography, historical non-fiction, a phonebook, etc.

A novel is a long story in fiction or in true to life presentation containing many characters in contrast to a short story and written in sequences that are called chapters, with more than 20,000 words for the purpose of entertainment or moral lesson. Book, on the other hand, are textbooks for students such as math, english , calculus, engr., etc.

A book is just a simple chapter book that is short and not always the real thing.
A novel is the full story, more than a normal book of it or a movie can tell you.
