I had a misscariage sept.25,2006 and a month later in october i got the depo shot but before i got it i had unprotected sex for that whole month and the doctor told me not to because that would be the easiest time to get pregnant but I didnt listen. My depo shot is running out now and this is the first time I have ever taken it. I am supposed to take another one Jan.5,2007 but i am not going to. I eat all the time now and I am gaining a lot of weight. I think I might be pregnant but I am not for sure.

If you are that careless, what do you think is going to happen? You probably are. Good luck.

I was on the depo shot for three years and i did not gain weight nor did i have my periods at all which was a big plus of being on the shot. I didn't have any problems with it and once i stopped taking it i became pregnant in a year so i think depo is the best birth control out there. The birth control shot is a very effective method of birth control. Over the course of 1 year, fewer than 3 out of 100 typical couples who use the birth control shot every 3 months will have an accidental pregnancy. The chance of getting pregnant increases if you wait longer than 3 months to receive your next shot.

In general, how well each type of birth control method works depends on a lot of things. These include whether a person has any health conditions or is taking any medications that might interfere with its use. It also depends on whether the method chosen is convenient — and whether the person remembers to use it correctly all of the time.

First of all, yes, you can gain anything from 5-15 lbs on Depo, sometimes more. It's normal. Secondly, before they gave you the first Depo you should have had a pregnancy test. They cannot then give you the Depo if you're pregnant, since it can be damaging to the fetus.

If, for any reason, that didn't happen and you're concerned about being pregnant, get an in-store test, or tell your doctor before you get the next Depo. The failure rate for the shot is about 0.1%, so it shouldn't have happened while you were on it, but it's worth it to look if you're worried.

If you're not pregnant, there should be no reason to not take Depo---it's fairly safe (especially comparitively), hard to forget, and very effective.

Yes, the shot does make you gain weight. I was on it for about a year, and gained 20 - 30 lbs. Regretted it!!! I've lost all of the weight, and then some... I don't recommend it to anyone. Yes, it's very convenient to get the shot once every 3 months, but it's not worth it with all of the side effects..

As for your being pregnant, you should either take a home pregnancy test or have one at your doctor's. All contraceptives have that slight percentage of allowing you to become pregnant. Good luck!

I'm not a doctor, but I would say you are gaining weight from the depo shot. I'm on the shot too, and I'm scheduled to get another one in Feb. but I'm totally not going to. It has made me gain 20 lbs in the first month, 8 of which I have lost. My friend also gained weight, 40 lbs in 6 months. She started losing weight as soon as the depo wore off. Don't go back for your shot. Go to your doctor if you think you are pregnant. At home pregnancy tests aren't that accurate. I know that from experience.

The shot does make most people gain weight. It's a proven side effect. But at the same time you could possibly be pregnant. You just need to take a test. First of all, most birth controls require around 3 months to take effect. Then you may stop using a second form of birth control. But if I were you, I would take a test, and if yes...then you know what to do. And if not, then stick with a birth control and for 3 months use a backup method.

I made the mistake of taking Depo in Aug 2004. I regret ever taking that shot I gained almost 20 pounds I always had symptoms of pregnancy. I don't think you are pregnant those are just the side effects of the shot. Irregular and very heavy (3 week long) periods or no periods are very common. Hope this helps.

Depo can make you gain weight. Get a pregnancy test to find out for sure. If you still think you are pregnant go to your doctor to have a blood test done.

I gained 20 to 30 pounds while on the shot.
But, as soon as it wore off, I lost all the extra weight.

You can get pregnant while on it because
no birth control is 100%.

I wouldn't recomend that stupid shot to anyone. it caused me more problems than just the weight gain, and yes you can get pregnant. A couple that we are friends with now have a son and she was on depo. Good Luck.
