Yes, the sure do. Their eyes are still open so sometimes you may not know. My fish sleeps at night and when I cut the lights on in the morning I see that I wake him b/c the lights startle him and he is all over the tank. So yes, they do sleep.

Yes they do but because they don't have eyelids, they can't close their eyes. They usually find a nice "safe" place (in plants, in a corner, behind the filter, etc.) and just stop moving. Their breathing becomes very slight. Mine usually snuggle into the plants. I don't know if it's real important but I like to keep a regular light-dark routine (lights go out for at least 10 hours or more). If you try to waken your fish when it's in this sleep state, it will often go sprinting around the tank--just like if you woke someone who was sleeping (it's not a good thing to do btw).

The fish I had used to sleep belly-up. At first I would get all worried until I got used to it. Then sometimes I had to wake the guy up for feeding time. When he woke up he was lively again.

They go into a hypnogogic state very similar to sleep, so yes. But without eyelids, any sudden movement or change in light level will wake them. Please consider this before turning the aquarium lights on in the morning. Turn the room lights on first. Why be mean?

Most all fish spend time in an energy-saving state that can be called
"rest", and we might even call their behavior "sleep", though it is probably
different than "sleep" in most land
animals. Many fish, like Bass and perch, rest on or under logs at
night. Coral reef fish active in the day, hide and rest in crevices
and cracks in the reef to avoid being eaten at night.
The resting behavior of fish is very different from their behavior the
rest of the day. Many minnows, for example, which are very active in
schools during the day, scatter and remain motionless in shallow
water at night. Many fish "rest" or "sleep" during the day and are
active at night instead, but almost all fish sleep.
There are some animals that never stop swimming, like many species of
shark, however, they HAVE to keep moving to push water through their mouths
in order to breathe, and they may still sleep while moving,
we just don't know yet.

Yeah, sorta, they just kind of "rest". Mine go near the bottom or the top usually and get a little pale and don't move, then wake right up when I turn the light back on! They won't really close their eyes, though, lol.

Yes. They won't close thier eyes because they don't have eyelids. and they might move to stay in the spot.
