The numbers are used exclusively for identification. In addition to helping referees differentiate between players, it makes it easier for broadcasters to denote certain players. Back in the good 'ole days of football, the jersey numbers became larger with the size of the player

0-19 for QB, punter, kicker
20-49 for RB, DB
50-59 for LB
79-99 for DE, DT
60-79 for C, T, G
80-89 for TE

However, as wide receivers emerged as an offensive position, and the forward pass became a dangerous weapon, wide receivers were also included to wear the numbers 80-89. Because of their size and number of players at their position, however, wide receivers have also been granted the numbers 10-19.

Nothing really. Its a way for the refferees to distinguish between players when calling penalties. However your number does signify which position you are.
0-19 QB, WR
20-48 RB, FB, CB, S
48-59 LB
60-79 C,G,T
80-89 WR
79-99 DL,DT,DE

People who thank me by telling me that I "did a good job." Those who put in a good word for me, or brag on me. That is really the only way that I feel good about myself...I cannot do anything without getting the approval of someone else. And if they say that I didn't do a good job, or I was sloppy, then it makes me really look down on myself. I want to do something over if I think it wasn't "satisfactory" enough. Now, what really makes me feel good, is girls that flirt with me...which seldom every happens, but I do like it. :) Great question!
