Kobe still has a lot of playing to do. It's not fair to rank a guy this young against players with career numbers.
I would rank him in the #10 NBA athletes of all-time. His athletic ability is phenomenal.
As for the top players:
Oscar Robertson - The only man in NBA history to average a triple-double for an entire season. Came lose to doing the same feat on 4 other occasions.
Bill Russell
Wilt Chamberlain
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Michael Jordan
Magic Johnson
Dr. Julius Erving
Larry Bird
Shaquille O'Neal
Hakeem Olajuwon
John Havlicek
Elgin Baylor
Pete Maravich

Kobe is a great player, and there's no denying it. The argument for him as one of the top-5 players of all time:
Kobe has amazing and gaudy stats. 3 NBA titles. 81 points in a single game. His accolades are so great, they are almost incomparable to any other player of his time-except Michael Jordan.
However, Kobe is not a proven winner alone. As soon as Shaq Diesel left his side, he flopped. The proud Lakers franchise was soon faced with the prospect of a losing season-and a bad one at that. And after the rape charges against him...can you really consider him the greatest? After all, he is a role model to young children.
So what do I think? I think...if games were played on paper, the NBA would be a failure. So stats aren't enough. I think, amongst the best players, Kobe would rank about #15. My top 10:
1. Wilt
2. Jordan
3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
4. Bill Russell
5. Magic Johnson
6. Dr. Julius Erving
7. Oscar Robertson
8. Larry Bird
9. Shaquille O'Neal
10. Hakeem Olajuwon

I don't like Kobe, but I can't deny his talent. That being said, he has 3 championships, but I can't put him higher than 30 right now.
Truth is, a lot of the guys ahead of him have intangibles that for some reason he never attained. The main one is leadership.
Getting past the Bird, Jordan and Magic icons, there are a lot of other superstars ahead of him like Bill Russell, Jabbar, Wilt, Karl Malone, Barkley, Cousy, Stockton, Isaiah Thomas, Olajuwon. I could go on.
Yes, Kobe is physically gifted, but until he learns how to lead his team, know when lead a team, learn the mental part of the game, and to trust his team and coaches, I wouldn't put him any higher than 30 at this point in his career.

He's not in the discussion. So far, the conversation is limited to MJ, Bird, Magic, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. Out of those, I would say the order is MJ, Russell, Robertson, Bird, Magic, Wilt.
Kobe is probably in the next tier and a half down with Karl Malone, David Robinson and Charles Barkley

Brother,brother,brother....Look I'm a die hard Laker fan
If I was going to be bais I would say.
1)Magic
2)Kareem
3Wilt
4)Shaq
5)Kobe
But has Kobe won a title with him being the go to guy?You know the answer is no.So why woulkd you even put him in the top five? You're being bias like I use to be. Scoring stats mean nothing if you don't take over during playoffs and lead you r team to tiltles. But Kobe has only had this team for himself for 1 and half years so we will have to wait.
As much as I hate to say it.Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time. At 6'6" he could score and dominate from any spot on the court. how many times did he take over games where YOU COULD NOT STOP HIM playoffs or regular season. Once he started winning Championships he did not stop, and don't count his lil baseball adventure against him. Wilt and Russell? Guys they were ahead of their time and No M*********ers where even close to their height,of course they were going to dominate!!!The atheltes during those days in sports weren't even close to atheletes in the 80's,90's, or 2000's.MJ would drive to lane at 6'6" and dunk on 7 freakin footers!?!?! Most likely those who put those playersw at the top are from that age group and their egos can't humble themselves and "eat humble pie" and admit that generations in many aspects have advanced.
1)Michael
2)Magic
3)Larry
4)Shaq
why? because these four played against a far superior athletic, faster, and versatile nba players and dominated.POINT BLANK!!!
NO Questions asked!!

I wouldn't even put him in my top 3 guards as of now:
1) MJ (six rings, MVPs, scoring titles, all-defense)
2) Magic (5 rings, 2nd in assists, made teammates better)
3)Oscar (1 ring, but averaged a triple-double an entire season)
then you've got to put Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq ahead of him, so I'd say 8 (how ironic) at the very best...

dont think top 10. MJ, wilt, bird, dr j, magic, malone, ewing, oscar, etc are all better and more well-rounded than kobe. i wouldnt say hes the best in the past decade, let alone ever. all kobe is, is a scorer. avg in assists and below in rebounds. within the last decade (of those who have played most of the last 10 years), id put (in no order) j kidd (my man), duncan (though i hate him), KG, AI, and shaq all ahead of kobe.

Wow, all time... That's hard to say. I can say with absolute certainty that he is in the top 63 players in the NBA today!!! I mean let's face it, he's no John Starks.
