Genoa, Italy go to www.history.com Good hunting
And by the by he was of Italian decent and just worked for the powers that be at that time which was the Crown of Spain. Just like Marco Polo, and the Irish built and fought under the British Crown, and Moses was a Pharoah but a Hebrew? The argument that Chris Columbus was a Spaniard is ridiculous, what is that going to mean? That we should put a Spanish flag up? Regardless he was an Italian.Remember the Iceman the 4000 year old man found in the Alps, Austria tried to steal that as their own away from Italy too but Italy won because he was a native from the Roman territory and Italy.

It has been argued for years but the general consensus is Genoa, Italy. He sailed for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella Of Spain with the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria in 1492.
The confusion probably comes from the fact that he did sail to the Americas under the Spanish flag.

The identity of Columbus is still not certain. It is most widely accepted that he was of Italian ancestry. More specifically he is believed to have been from the Republic of Genoa, in Italy, although it has been surmised he could have been from Catalonia, Spain, and Portugal where the greatest navigators of his time lived. Certainly there were ties between Spain and the Italian nation-states; King Ferdinand II of Aragon was also the King of Sicily. Some theories suggest that he was actually Basque; the Basques are one of the most ancient mariner communities of Middle Ages Europe. Clues to Columbus' origin such as learned languages and DNA samples have been studied, but no definitive answer has yet been revealed.

I am guessing you are talking about the explorer Christopher Columbus, and he was born in Genoa, Italy.
