Usually guinea pig vets charge around $45 where I live. They cost more than other vets because a vet needs to specialize in exotics in order to provide appropriate care to you pig. Make sure you ask the vet office if they have experience with guinea pigs, because not all vets have the experience and you end up wasting money.
In addition to the $45, they will need to do a skin test and then possibly provide a medication. It may end up being about $100 total, but every vet charges differently.
I'm glad you are taking him to the vet. It is a good idea, especially because the hair loss is indicative of a fungal problem like ringworm. You may notice that his skin is somewhat flaky and itchy.

It depends where you live and what medication your guinea pig might need. One of the most common causes of bald patches in guinea pigs is itch mite, it's a bit like mange in dogs. There used to be a wash available but now a lot of vets inject the animal which is more expensive.

Oh brother, have you got a problem, I used to have guinea pigs(8) to be exact, and believe me I went through hell with them! The last one I had developed a bladder stone at the age of three and a half,my mom took me to the vets and(hold onto your shorts) it costed her $166 dollars to have the vet check my guinea pig over and take an x ray! Boy,are they ever expensive! No more guinea pigs for me,I now have two goldfish instead. Jan

I live in michigan and my vet charged 50 dollars for a visit. Make sure you call ahead to find one that specializes, some vets will see you, just to get your money and having no idea what a guinea pig needs.

I don't know how much it will cost you, but it is normal for a guinea pig to lose hair. I had one for a really long time and she shedded constantly.

First, call a vet and find out how much for an office visit. A lot of times with dogs (having fur lost problems) it's due to an allergy. I treated a dog with over the counter allergy relief items and it cleared it right up...just adjust amount due to weight differences.
