could be a range of things from high blood pressure, drugs of any sort to even an inner ear infection or just lack of sleep, could even be from a flash of bright light as sometimes it can take time for the photons to escape the eye as they sometimes bounce back and forth inside the iris.See a doctor then an optometrist

depends how often and after what.
if you see dots or sparkles after a round of coughing then its just something that happens when work so hard at coughing.
this can happen to you anytime there is a sudden big change in your movement or use of energy such as a cough. standing up fast after sitting for a time does this . lots of ways this sudden change can in blood pressure and use of energy can result in us seeing spots . very common.

They are called MOSCAE VOLANTATIS (flying flies)
This is a condition that has often been regarded as a indicator of incipent inanity
Don't worry tho, that a load of feces.
they are actually just optical illusions caused by stress.
I have them often, but they don't hurt you.
Try putting your palms over your eyes so as not to put pressure on them, and to cut off all light.
Then try to relax your eye muscles as much as possible.
Also, you may want to check out Dr. Bates. (WH Bates i think)

Means that you blood pressure is up. It is just a sign but if it keeps happening you need to have it checked.
Sometimes briht lights can cause them but it is temporary and goes away but the bloodpressure still needs to be ruled out as the cause.

If they're dark and move around, they could be "floaters", or debris in the eye that float around. If they're blanked out areas, there could be a problem with your eye(s) or possibly a cataract.
