They had to glue her wound shut. They said it is an alternative to stitches. I didnt like that idea but they promised it wouldnt get infected. Well... there is pus inside the glue where the wound is now. I called the ER and they had a doctor call me. The doctor said it was ok and not to worry about it unless she gets a fever or it swells up or smells funny. If that happens, take her to urgent care. The pus is a yellowish color. I am still worried. What should I do?

Those type of repairs do often get infected because everything is trapped under the "glue". The ER doesn't want to deal with you. They want you to go somewhere else so you will be their liability not the hospitals. If you are sure it is thick like pus, my advice would be go see someone else. Just so you know, it wont be fun. A 2 year old with an infected head injury could be torture for you!

I would rather her come to me with this problem, then have her shave. Shaving just increases the growth in the hairs. It like stubble on a mans face. He shaves in the morning, and by the evening her already has stubble appearing. Shaving, as you said waste time, and in the long run is more uncomfortable than waxing. I hope that when my daughter is around that age, she won't even bother shaving, because if you wax from the start of your hair removing days, the longer it takes for the hair to grow back. I can go for months w/o waxing because I've waxed since 14. I feel, as a mom that 13 is a bit young for a bikini wax, but, I wouldn't want my child to unhappy with her appearance, or self conscious about anything. Try asking your mom can you go to a salon and get waxed. Even show her your post. I would let my daughter get the bikini wax, just for the summer time, though. Ask your mom can you get it done for the summer time so you can wear you swim suits. Good luck.

I agree with the second opinion, since I haven't heard of any use of glue to stitch wounds. In the meantime monitor the size of the wound and the amount of pus involved. Clean the wound regularly to prevent any infection leading up to a wound infection or generalized sepsis.

Gluing a wound is very common and I've known it for years as I worked with toddlers at daycare and kinder garden.
If your daughter isn't complaining about pain, she should be okay, like the doctor said. The pus maybe just the wound clearing itself, when an infection occurs she'll get feverish and it will smell, she should be totally all right. Infected pus usually is green, but if you are worried as a mom, just follow you instinct and get her checked.

the use of this special glue is very common in the er nowdays, so please don't let anyone on here telling you they've never heard of it scare you. it's called dermabond and it's wonderful stuff.
a little bit a pus is normal-the wound is trying to clean itself out and might be fighting the glue being there initially (the body is not used to this stuff).
watch the wound closely-if the pus increases in amount, changes color (gets darker or turns green or brown), your daughter starts to complain that it hurts, or she starts to run a fever then take her back to the emergency room
for peace of mind, have you tried calling your family dr or her pediatrician? if the er doctors aren't making you feel comfortable, try calling your dr first. if you don't have a family dr-call another hospital emergency room in your area (not the one you took your daugher to) and ask them about it.
don't apply anything to the wound or try to wash it out. the glue is designed to dissolve on it's own and if you apply anything to it, you compromise it's strenght, which might cause it to dissolve to early and leaves your daughter at risk for infection b/c the cut could reopen

I would call the emergency room and ask to speak with the nurse or leave a detailed message for the doctor to call you back.

Have you asked your daughter how it feels? If it doesnt feel bad then dont worry about it but if it does then yea. Gotta let the kids tough it out too you know... cant always be all careful.

i think you should trust the Dr and give it a little time to see what happens and if nothing happens then great but if something bad happens then sue the Dr. but i would wait at least a day and see if it looks better or worse and call the Dr. again. and ask your friends or family also what they think when they look at it.
