i am a 26 year old male . I am having back pain on both sides near the mid back . It hurts when i bend sideways , twist and my lower back feels very , very tight . At times i feel so tight with pain that if i force it i hear grinding , crunching and popping sounds and get a very temporary releif but not for long . This has been going on for 3 months . Any ideas on what this could be ? What makes your back crack and stuff while experiencing pain ? The cracking and grinding itself doesnt hurt at all .

Maybe you should go for a massage or something to relieve some tension on your back?

The pain can result from an accumulation of bad postures. Maybe, the way you sit (or the way you walk) puts a stress on your back. But the problem is that if you don't seat (or walk) properly it's because you can't. So I would rather go to a doctor who could prescribe you a physiotherapy that is right for you. When the pain starts to be less acute - and if your doctor agrees - I would start yoga. I know it sounds cheesy, but it really works... My back pains that never really left me in spite of regular physiotherapy sessions are now under complete control. Plus I have a better understanding of the way my body works. I feel empowered with my health...

I've had a lumbago before and it sounds like what you're describing.
Your lumbar bone or so called SI-joint ( sacroiliac) might have moved and overstretched your muscles. If you've been training at the gym lifting weights or carried anything heavy the pain may consist.
I had physiotherapy for 5 months and wasn't allowed to lift heavy weight at all!
The best way is to focus on your abs, and do exercises to straighten those, it helped me a lot.
The links below can give you more info, about the bone and it's position and some advice on exercises and mattress advice, which also helped me.
Good luck!!
