As for your views on Biblical Old Testament justice ... well there are many folks that still hold to them. However, they must be administered very, very carefully by fully informed administrators ... otherwise every Tom, Dick, and Harry would be running around with guns shooting everyone else.
Since there are few men as wise as the Biblical Solomon, and even fewer witnesses as true as White Witnesses (ref. Stranger In A Strange Land), we poor mortals of the present age (who live in America at least) must suffer along with the legal system our forefathers built on the Biblical New Testament.
In other words, we have to assume innocence in the absence of solid evidence to the contrary. Does this mean that every guilty party will suffer the consequences? Regrettably no. But it does make it infinitely more likely that an innocent party will not be punished for crimes they did not commit.
As bad as it seems sometimes, it is still the best system on the planet. All we can do it ensure a steady supply of honest men and women to maintain our legal system.
I hope that you can come to terms with your loss. Please seek help from family and friends or someone else that you can trust. Our system ain't perfect but it is the best we've got.

Hey, Ebenezer Scrooge, lay off. First of all, it's not "hippies." A lot of them are people who don't believe in that kind of retaliation. Some of them are called Christians. Others are called Jews. And some of them are humanitarians.
From a meaner point of view, do you think it's as much torment for them simply to die? Not to live out their lives in solitary, going crazy inside their own heads, getting beaten on and worse by inmates who don't stand for that sort of crap? Even lowlifes have a line, and most people like that cross it for them, particularly with children. Death, simple and painless, isn't an eye for an eye for rapists or murderers. It's a quick release.
I've had to go through the joy of reliving a lot of the things that have happened to me in my head on a regular basis. I'd rather know that the man who did it is having as painful a time behind bars as I did at his hands.
And believe me, he is.

I agree with the eye for an eye deal. I for one would like to see any person that harms animals have the same done to them, so why not people? But then.. there have been those cases where people have been found innocent after further examination of evidence. Of course, if the system would do it right in the first place we wouldn't have to worry about that.

Is murdering a evil woman worse than murdering a good man? What if you put an innocent person to death are you to be put to death for that? Some crimes call for it but the system is flawed.

It's easy when you know for sure that the convict is guilty... but what if he/she is innocent? What if it was someone related to you? What if someone framed you for murder?

um, it's not just hippies, I'm consevative (with the excpetion of the death penalty). I'm Roman Catholic, and according to my faith, it's wrong.
