A Tablet PC has a silly tough screen that sorta works cool. But the whole thing is more delicate and breaks easily. It's hardly worth the price. Look for RUGGED. Consider that laptops are the number one stolen item in America, then consider how much you are helping some DRUG DEALER to get rich when yours disappears.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

A tablet PC is a touch screen or digitizing tablet technology that allows the user to operate the computer with a stylus or digital pen, or a fingertip, instead of a keyboard or mouse.
Laptops are capable of the same tasks as a desktop PC, although they are typically less powerful for the same price. There are many variants you should consider here is a brief descripion of what componets do and you can decide from there.
RAM in a computer is considered main memory or primary storage: the working area used for loading, displaying and manipulating applications and data
Hard Drive: device which stores data. Older machines use megabytes or MB the higher the number the more room you have to store your stuff. Newer machines use gigabytes and some are even upto terrabytes.
Video card: is a dedicated graphics rendering device for a personal computer, workstation. Modern GPUs are very efficient at manipulating and displaying computer graphics.
Optical drives: The basics is just a cd rom that will allow you to play music cd's, computer programs/games. Then you have the optical drives that will allow you to burn cd's, watch dvd's and burn dvd's.
Screen size: Some people say size doesn't matter, (when it comes to screen size) I beg to differ. The bigger the better!

Tablet PC is a laptop that has a screen that twists around 180 degrees and lays flat.
1. how much can you spend
2. what is it used for
3. Check www.pcworld.com for ratings and reviews before you by. While the sales pitch makes it sound great, it may crap out after only 1 -2 hours on battery, or leave you with 2nd degree burns.
4. Consider an off-lease laptop. You can buy them under warranty for about 10 -20% of the original cost of the new one. Example: IBM T40 Thinkpads sell for $400- $600, under warranty, about 2Ghz, 512 - 1024 MG RAM, DVD, CD-RW, WIFI, XP, 8+hour battery life and more. New cost = $3000. Check online auctions like eBay. Some allow payment by VISA, which extends the warranty.

A laptop is a portable computer that has a screen that folds down over the keyboard to resemble a small suitcase.
a tablet pc resembles a laptop and in all intents and purposes is a laptop with the exception of the screen which flips up as a normal laptop screen but also swivels 180 degrees to allow you to use it as a pda but with all the capabilities of a laptop.

First consider the processor, if you are willing to spend some money buy one with Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo or Core Duo
then look for system memory or RAM memory 512mb memory and up 1gb is ideal.
Of course is always important the brand, I have always trusted HP but Sony or Toshiba is OK. DONT buy E-Machines they suck.
Hope it helps
