Yes. They're called "voice-overs". It's so expensive, but apparently works very well. Look at this study: The researchers studied consumers' reactions to TV commercials featuring actors Willem Dafoe, David Duchovny, David Hyde Pierce and Donald Sutherland, whose voices were used by Qwest, Sprint, Lipton and Volvo, respectively.

Not surprisingly, viewers' prior attitudes toward the celebrities influenced how much they liked or disliked the products, but this influence was greatest when consumers weren't sure which celebrity provided the voice-over.

"We found that the presence of a celebrity voice can influence brand evaluation even when the consumer has no idea that the voice-over was provided by a celebrity," said Forehand, an associate professor of marketing and international business. "When consumers did not recognize the celebrity, their brand evaluations shifted in the direction of their attitude toward that celebrity. For example, subjects who liked David Duchovny responded more favorably to brands paired with his voice than did subjects who disliked him. This effect is called assimilation."

Lots of celebrities do voice-overs. It's apparently very lucrative compared to the amount of time they have to invest in each job. I've read many articles about it. I cannot quote a specific article or date of publishing, but I'm certain I've seen letters in TV Guide asking what you've asked and about specific commercials. Then again, I've recently seen a commercial where there was a notation on the bottom of the screen saying voice was a celebrity impersonator!

Julia Roberts did voice-overs when she was pregnant. Celebrities can make quite a bit of money doing this. Some ad people think that if people hear a famous voice they will some how remember a product better, even if they can't figure out who that celebrity is.

A lot of celebrities are the voices on commercials. Kirstie Ally does a baby diaper one and Christine Lahti does a skin moisturizer one...those are just the two that came to mind when I read your question.
