Is it wrong for a cat to eat a bird or a mouse? Is it wrong for a wolf to eat a rabbit? I don't think so. A human eating meat is no different.

Illiniangel is not wrong, dude, you are.
I've never seen a cow around starving people. I've seen starving people, and they're starving. People in poor countries don't even eat milk, which is fattening and not healthy.
Cows may be able to eat 27 different kinds of vegetation than we can, but that doesn't mean they do. Read the New York Times editorial. She did say that cows that will be hit on the head with an axe at the slaughterhouse consume 30% of wheat produced in the world, and that is not right, because the figure is actually 70%.
I'll even go one further. Livestock for meat consumes half of all clean water (while many can't get clean water), plus 70% of all grain produced.
also, Jesus was a vegetarian.
If you didn't eat meat, there wouldn't be any starving people in this world, that's for sure. Anyone who says differently, is kidding themselves so they can sleep at night.

Unethical? Ok, there are a lot of things that are more unethical than eat meat this guy is doing right now, e.g. using his/her car because a lot of Afghans are dying due to oil business. But lets go to the point: if eating meat were unethical then we do not must be here because trough all natural history life has existed because other life. The very existence of this person is unethical because his/her life is supported/sustained by other life, be this vegetable or animal (plants also feel). And a very long etcetera, e.g. when we breath we are killing a lots of microorganisms, also when we chew. Do he/she kill a cockroach, spider o snake that is threatening him/her? Use he/her leather, gelatin products, vaccines, etc.? To be ethical in this way, he/she must stop living/moving, otherwise he/she is a killer.

You don't have to refute anything.
I try to apply mostly Buddhist type principals in my life but at this time I don't see myself giving up steak, or any other kind of (usually eaten) meats.
Your ethics are yours and her ethics are hers and it's okay if they don't match on this point.
Half my friends don't eat much meat. We always have a laugh when we have dinner together because they know I would order all meat if I could find it on the menu.
Point is we don't judge each others diets. We grant each other the latitude to do what feel is right for ourselves.
Yep, live and let live is my motto. . .
unless you're a cow, pig, chicken or somethin'else I like to eat,
then it's live and let die. . .lol
did you see that one coming?
Seriously, when I go to a pot luck when a Buddhist monk is in town I don't bring meat cause he's a religious person.
I eat meat before I go though and plenty of it cause when I get there everything is a side dish as far as I'm concerned.
And that's okay.
I do what I need to do and they do the same.
P.S.
very funny Apollyon. Makes me laugh! lol

You're all just meat-eating idiots. Get back in your SUV, turn on your country music, go back to your job at McDonald's where you dream of being manager someday and get a life.
You just don't want to feel bad about yourselves, so you make fun of others who have all presented intelligent points.
also, you're really NOT a good Buddhist if you eat all sorts of meat. Because, well, the most basic part of Buddhism is not hurting another life form. I think you've got a LONG way to go before becoming a monk, sorry to be the one to tell ya. Don't think you'll be reaching nirvana soon, buddy.

i think that ethics is something that extremeist use to get conservatives on thier side.. chosing not to eat meat is like chossing a religion.. just because you believe in something doesnt mean that everyone who has other ideas should be condemed. I had a girl friend who was a Vegan meaning no cheese no animal by products at all... now she eats chicken and some fish. just goes to show that whats right for someone.. might not always be right for ever. To each his own.. and ill have the grilled mushrooms on my steak, medium well please

illiniangel, is actually wrong since cattle can consume 27 different forms of vegitation which the human body can not consume and the cattle convert that foilage into protien in the form of beef which man can consume in the form of a big juicy red steak and it provides sustinance to the body.
Why do so many go hungry in the asian subcontinent while cattle are roaming the streets all around them? Kill the goddamned cattle and eat them.
You can still have veggies with your steak and lobster!!!
Enjoy, it is there for the taking and I know that hamburger you love so much tastes a lot better than brocolli.

Since its a scientific fact that plants have feelings, ask her if she is willing ti give up eating anything that is or was living.( Hope she needs to lose some weight. )Then ask how she feels about killing Other living things so she can live;virus's and bacteria might have Moms and feelings too. I really wish there was a simple answer to the "top of the food chain" argument, cause hungry E.T.'s scare me if that's the only answer. P.S. Did she like to be eaten?

I categorise myself as an omnivore so by definition I eat some meat, but I do feel guilty for eating animals that have been pumped with hormones (which, from what I hear, is most meat), forcing the animal to grow far bigger than its natural anatomy can handle.

It is unethical to eat another animal. Here are a few reasons.
1. People are starving. Human starvation could be cut out totally if livestock didn't exist, because livestock eat a large percentage of the world's crops, and they eat more than the meat they become. 30% of the world's wheat, for example, goes to cows that will be eaten.
2. Global warming would be prevented. 18% of the world's global warming is caused by methane (gas) released from livestock. Sounds funny, but it's not. That is more than the amount of global warming caused by all forms of transportation, and yes, the global warming problem would be solved if everyone were vegetarian even if we all drove SUVs. Al Gore didn't mention that unfortunately, but the New York Times just did an editorial on it.
3. Animals feel pain. For many people, this is most important, but combined with the other two, it presents an ironclad argument that the only way to live ethically-- for both humans and animals-- is to live a cruelty-free, meat-free lifestyle.
(Also, fyi: there are veggie burgers that taste exactly like meat, so you don't even have an argument on that level.)

Nope. Raised 'em & ate 'em. @Sepsis Chickens will runabout for like 5 minutes when you decrease the pinnacle off, do no longer understand how long they run approximately after strangulation, (yet in a distinctive thank you to prepare chicken for supper).
